Books
Our bookstore has grown from a small selection of books on wine and beer making, beekeeping and other “how to” books that filled just a few shelves when the store first opened in 1979. As the store gained additional space, gardening and nature books were added. Special orders were taken and the book section expanded as interest in having a local resource for books grew from customer requests.

BooksIn 1990, an intimate independent bookstore became a reality when additional space became available offering good reading, new and old books, and local authors and publications. An eclectic selection of adult fiction, nonfiction, travel reading and maritime books attracts readers interested in well written and interesting books. Additional titles can be special ordered and in the customer’s hands usually within a day or two. There is a large but selective section of gardening books. A small cookbook section includes many basic and new titles as well as local books. Books by local authors and of local interest are the centerpiece of the bookstore. And if you don’t have time to read those bestsellers, or just want to improve your driving time, we rent audio books on both cassettes and cds.

BooksOur children’s books are always popular. We look for old favorites, exciting and well written adventure stories, biographies, historical fiction, nature and fantasy books that should attract even the most reluctant young readers. Our youngest customers can curl up with our resident bear, “Ivan”, as they enjoy looking at a book. Many books include a short review and description by our staff and customers. A special feature we enjoy is combining many of our books with appropriate toys to further attract the interest of young readers.

Our office is accessible in the bookstore for all questions, special requests and orders. We welcome serving book groups and teachers’ classroom assignments. We are small, but able to evolve with our customers’ interest and encouragement. We are members of the American Booksellers Association and their IndieBound program, New England Independent Booksellers Association and the Association of Booksellers for Children.
