Book signing and presentation:
Howard Frank Mosher, Walking to Gatlinburg
Friday, March 12th, 7pm

Join Partners Village Store in welcoming Howard Frank Mosher to discuss his new novel, Walking to Gatlinburg. Mr. Mosher has written eleven books, and has received the Literature Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters as well as a New England Book Award for Fiction. Three of his books have been made into movies.

Walking to Gatlinburg is a "Civil War thriller," a mythic story of survival, wilderness adventure, and love in a time of war. In 1864, 17 year old Morgan Kinneson and his family are part of the Underground Railroad. While shuttling slaves to freedom in Canada, Morgan is lured away by the prospect of shooting a moose for meat — and returns to find the escaped slave in his care has been murdered. Too ashamed to return to his parents, Morgan decides to travel south from Vermont through war-torn America to the Great Smokey Mountains in search of his older brother, who is missing from the Union Army. He quickly learns that the escaping slave’s killers are on his tail, and that he unknowingly has something of value that they want – a map of the Underground Railroad itself. Mosher suspends disbelief with the constant danger young Morgan finds himself in as he is pursued by a terrifying gang, which he must eliminate one by one as he continues his journey.

Mr. Mosher calls the presentation he will give “Transforming History into Fiction: The Story of a Born Liar.” He says “It’s funny, but should also appeal to Civil War discussion groups, history and women’s book groups, aspiring writers, and to anyone interested in old-fashioned storytelling.”

Cost for the event is $5.00. Coffee, tea and dessert wil be available. Please call 508 636-2572 or email us to reserve a seat.
